Bedroom wall art

I spied these ceramic letters at the thrift store

awhile back. I almost squealed out loud!

They have 2 different sizes of letters, numbers,

and symbols.

Oh, the possibilities!

I quickly snatched them up, and they have sat

on my craft room shelf for MONTHS.

Just waiting for inspiration to hit.

And it did, the other day on Pinterest.

I spied these beauties.

So I got out a blank 12x12 canvas and my letters.
And I laid them out until I got it just right.
(Can you believe the hearts were in the box too?!)

Then I marked pencil lines so I could keep the letters straight.

Laid my letters out again and hot glued them to the canvas.

Then I spray painted the canvas white to cover up

the glue and pencil marks.

And now it is hanging in our bedroom.
Hubby was very impressed too.
I love the fact that it is a scripture too.

Antiquing paper

I have been meaning to accessorize my antique

typewriter for months now. When I came across

this tutorial for antiquing paper, I knew this is

what I wanted to do.

So I typed a scripture in Word using an old

typewriter font and printed it out on

regular printer paper.

Then I poured coffee on the paper and sprinkled

a few coffee grounds around. Baked it according

to the instructions.

And this is what I came up with. I love it!

I'll show more pictures of my Granny's antique desk

soon.

Funnel light fixture

I got a Lowe's gift card for my birthday this year

and I knew exactly what I was going to buy

with it. A pendant light fixture to go

above the kitchen sink!

I bought this one in nickel.

Then I begged my dad to let me have his

old metal funnel and turned it into

this.

Now to work on my light above the kitchen island!

I want to do something like this.

Thanksgiving Chargers

I bought four of these plastic chargers at Walmart

last year on clearance. I wish I could have found more.

You can't tell they are plastic until you pick them up.

I finally got around to putting something on them

with my Cricut.

I found the Give Thanks svg at Expressions Vinyl.

I love the wheat stalks.

I was inspired by Bird Scrap's scrapbook page for the

next charger.

I couldn't find the svg online, so I recreated it with

my Sure Cuts A Lot software. I used Adobe Caslon Pro

for "Thanks" and Honey Script Light for

"in all things give".

I have two more to do. These are going to make great

gifts. I hope I can find more chargers this year!

In the Wilderness

October's Sunday School bulletin board theme was

"In the Wilderness".

It was more of a guy theme than most of the others.

One of the Sunday School rooms is decorated this quarter

with a camping theme. A campfire in the middle

of the room. Glow in the dark stars on the ceiling.

Tree stumps for stools. We have such talented

Sunday School teachers!

So I thought this theme fit right in.

I cut everything out with my Cricut. I need some new mats

desparately. Mine are losing their stickiness. But everything

went pretty smooth.

I love, love, love the little trees!

And the pillars of fire.

And the fluffy cotton ball clouds!

Now I have to take it down for November's theme -

"Seasons change but Jesus remains the same".

Under Construction

September's Sunday School bulletin board theme is

"Under Construction".

I thought it would be a nice change for the boys.

I couldn't find any caution tape so I printed the border

on my computer.

The title is the only thing I cut out with

my Cricut this time. The font looks like saw blades.

I didn't measure right before I started putting up

the title. So I had to hyphenate.

The reflector lights came from Dollar Tree. They really

light up! If the Sunday School kids knew, the batteries would

be dead in no time!

Jesus is the answer

I am a little late with pictures of my August Sunday School

bulletin board. I figured I'd better take some pictures

before I took it down to put up September's.

Since the children were going back to school,

I decided I would use a school theme.

"Jesus is the answer" was the title. So true!

Jesus is always the answer to every situation.

Give your problems to him and he will work it

out in his own way ... and in his own time.

I used a black background. I had planned to write on it

with chalk, but I ran out of room. Maybe next year!

I found the border at Dollar Tree.

And I cut the scissors, paperclips, crayons,

pencils and glue with my Cricut.

It was so much fun putting it together. I hope the children

enjoy it as much as I did!

Wire basket

I have been so inspired by the pretty wire baskets

I have seen in blogland. Like this one and this one.

I knew they would be perfect for my guest bathroom

and my new ladder shelf my dad built for me (another post

for another day!).

So I shopped around until I found a basket that had

a wire frame. I finally found some at Big Lots.

They have a fabric cover over a wire frame.

The fabric cover is just velcro-ed on. So it

was really easy to take off.

I bought some hardware cloth at Lowe's.

And then cut pieces and attached them to all four sides.

I didn't put any wire in the bottom of the basket

because you won't be able to see the bottom

when it is on the shelf. (And because I was tired

of bending wire!)

One more to go and then I will show you

the finished bathroom shelf!

Suitcase

I found this suitcase at the thrift store a while back.

I really like the handle on top and the shape.

But the color is putrid!

So I decided to paint it and use it as storage

in my craft room for all my beads and wire.

Here it is painted black. It looks like I still

need to touch it up. But it really doesn't look that

bad in person.

Don't mind the messy craft room in the foreground!

The inside was pretty bad. I forgot to take a picture

of before. I put some pretty contact paper I got

from Fred's in the inside.

I think it turned out pretty good. Now I need to

paint my bazillion other suitcases I plan to

use for fabric storage!

I had so much fun finding the clothes for the clothesline

to cut out on my Cricut.

Sugar and Flour canisters

So, I've had these ugly labels on my sugar and flour canisters

for a while now. I was just waiting to get a Cricut, so I

could cut them out of vinyl.

Well, I've had my Cricut for a year now.

I finally got around to cutting the labels today.

So much better!

Father's Day present

My husband got his father this really cool soft leather slim bible

for Father's Day. But of course, being a man - he didn't think

of getting a gift bag or wrapping paper.

So I looked in my stash, and thank goodness, I found some

manly wrapping paper. It has fish on it which I don't

think my father-in-law fishes, but oh well! It'll have to do.

My husband asked me if I had any cool ribbon. Me? Have ribbon?

Of course!

He wanted to strap the Father's Day card to the bible.

So I found some grosgrain ribbon that matched the paper, but

I didn't have a bow to match.

Then I remembered I had a gift bow tutorial bookmarked.

Just had to find it.

Here it is. It's from How About Orange.

I first thought I would make it out of the ribbon, but then I

decided I didn't want to waste that much ribbon.

So I used the wrapping paper.

I never knew gift bows were that easy! My husband thought

it looked very professional. He said, "You don't ever have

to buy bows again!"

I don't know about that! But it was fun.

I've had this cute little stand for a while now. I found it at the thrift store.

I just wasn't loving the brown stain.

Sooo, on a nice not too hot day, I whipped out my antique white spray paint.

Sanded the edges a little and now I have this.

So much better!

Beaded Watch bands

Some new beaded watch bands I have been working on.

I need to redo the green one, though. It is a tad tight on my

wrist. I got the beads and lobster clasps at Michael's.

The spacers came from Hobby Lobby and the watch face

from Amazon.com.

I used the tutorial from Sisters Stuff. I would love

to know where she found her beads. I love the mismatched

look. Mine are all matchy matchy.

A slip to be seen

I have been eyeing these underslips for a while. They

are slips that are longer than your skirts, so they

are meant to be seen.

They are so cute! And the perfect solution to all those

cute skirts that are a little too short to be modest.

But I am such a cheapskate! Too cheap to buy one... anyway.

So I bought a couple of inexpensive slips. One white, and one black.

I sewed three ruffles on the bottom of the white one.

I think it turned out pretty cute!

I wore it to church Sunday. It definitely made me feel

a lot more comfortable in this skirt. I loved the colors
and it was on clearance,

so I bought it even though it was a little too short.

I let the hem out and wore it a couple of times but

still had to tug on it all day. Now it is perfect!

I bought at the Dollar Tree. I just stuck them to some

scrapbook paper and framed it.

And the candy heart topiary! I love it! It took a bit of

time. Plus I had to eat all the broken ones. Oh, well!

This post is a little late. I actually didn't take the pictures until

the day I was taking it down to put up February. This is

January's Sunday school bulletin board.

The silver snowflake background is wrapping paper bought

on clearance from Walmart after Christmas.

The white snowflakes are from Dollar Tree. The blue snowflakes

were printed out on paper and cut out by hand! Not with my Cricut!

I think the only thing I cut out with my Cricut is the title.

The font is Lobster.

I cut everything out with my Cricut. The paper is from

Paige and Brooke. They are not blogging anymore but

you can still download their scrapbook papers.

I love the red, turquoise and pink together.

I think the title turned out a little busy, but I didn't have time to

print more paper.

I am so late in blogging this. But I really enjoyed putting this

together. This is my Sunday school bulletin board for November.

The paper and elements are from Raspberry Road Designs -

Harvest Blessings. I can't find the free download on their

website anymore.

I really like the THANKS tree. But it's hard to see.

I used Leaves Regular font. Here again, I can't

find it free online now.

I ruffled brown crepe paper with my sewing machine.

The green ribbon is from Dollar General.

Craft room art

I still need art on the wall in my craft room. So I was in the thrift

store the other day and found these small wooden spools for

50 cents. I snatched them up! I knew I could do something

with them in my craft room.

So I brought them home and pulled out some embroidery thread

in the 3 main colors that I am decorating with. Pink, Lime Green

and Turquoise.

I wrapped each spool with the thread and strung them on

a piece of twine. Then I decoupaged a frame with some

leftover pattern pieces.

I think it turned out pretty cute! And you can see my vinyl

buttons I cut out with my cricut. But that's another post!

Valentine decorating

I found these heart picks at Dollar Tree. I bought several

packs of the red velvet, and red glitter hearts. They also

had pink, but I am not a big fan of pink.

So I brought them home and pulled the wooden

pick out and filled my apothecary jar with the hearts.

It needed a little something else. So I cut strips of some leftover

scrapbooking paper and stapled one end to make paper hearts.

Paint pyramids

My new favorite crafting tool. Painter's pyramid.

They are these little yellow pyramids that you

put under something you are painting. That

way you can get all the sides and edges without

having to wait for one side to dry. And with

your project up off of the newspaper, you won't

get paper stuck to the paint.

$5 for a set of 10 at Lowe's.

I wish I had these when I was painting

all my chairs and my bench!

Winter decorations

I love, love, love these mercury glass acorns.

I got them after Christmas at Walmart. I wish

they had more than too left. Oh well!

The silver pine cones are candles I bought at Dollar General.

Fifty cents on clearance after Christmas.

I bought the beaded pomegranates and pears at the thrift

store a while back. I was saving them for winter!

I brought out the Dollar Tree snowflakes from last year.

And some vintage thread wrapped ornaments from the thrift store.

Aww, I love blue, white and silver! So pretty!

Wreath holder

I love it! And it's adjustable. And it's already painted black.

Christmas lighted glass block

I needed a gift idea for that person that has everything. (I wish

I had that problem!) So I bought some clear glass blocks at

Hobby Lobby and Michael's using a 40% coupon. They

ended up being $6. I bought clear Christmas lights at

Dollar General for $1.25.

I cut out the saying with my Cricut using vinyl scraps

I bought from my local sign shop. And the poinsettia

ribbon was given to me.

Not bad for less than $9!

After looking at the pictures, I probably should cut the

ribbon ends a little shorter. Oh, well! I already gave it

to my grandmother last weekend at our family

Christmas get-together. Maybe next time.

I still need to make 2 more before Christmas!

Christmas chargers

I found these beautiful red chargers at Walmart the other

day for $3. I bought a few for Christmas gifts. I cut out

some Christmas images on white vinyl with my Cricut.

I think they turned out pretty good! They are already

on their way to my in-laws in Alabama.

Hope they like them!

Crafty wreath

I decided I just had to have a sign on my craft room door

so I would remember which room was mine. :-)

I bounced a couple of ideas around. One was just a sign

that said something like "Caution: Enter at Your Own Risk"

or something similar.

Then I saw this wreath on Etsy. And it got my creativity flowing.

So I looked through mys stash. I found a styrofoam wreath, wooden sign

and tomato pin cushions I had bought at the Dollar Tree.

I pulled out some some plastic measuring tape I found at the thrift store.

Then I got to work. I wrapped the measuring tape around

the wreath and hot glued it every so often. Then I glued

several pin cushions around the wreath. I decoupaged some

old pattern pieces to the wooden sign.

I searched around online and found this crafty saying.

I designed the saying using SCAL software

and cut it out in black vinyl using my Cricut.

I put the saying on my wooden sign and

glued the sign to the back of the wreath.

Now I want to make some Shrinky Dink

pins using Wee Wonderfuls' tutorial

and it will be done.

My new favorite shoe clips

I got this new (beautiful!) dress on clearance at Target

the other day. It is such a pretty color, almost an eggplant.

I don't have anything else in my closet that color. So I was

so excited when I found it in my size and for only $20!

I knew I could wear black or gray high heels with it. But I

wanted to punch it up a bit. I wanted to make some shoe

clips to go along with the dress. I didn't have eggplant

colored ribbon. So I looked around in my stash and found

an ugly jumper dress that my mom gave me to make something

out of. And it was the perfect color. It is made out of a

velvety kind of fabric. Matte on one side and shiny on the other.

I cut 5 circles for each shoe clip out of the jumper. I folded

each circle in half and then in half again. I alternated

folding the circles, some with the shiny side out and some

with the matte side out. I cut 2 circles out of felt for

the base of the flower. I glued 3 folded circles in a row across

the middle of my base felt circle. Then I glued one folded circle

on either side of the middle row. I added a few feathers

and glued shoe clips on the back.

I love them! My crafting cheerleader (my husband) said

they are my best ever! Boy, do I love that man!

Dollar Store fall decor

I have had these 3 cylinder vases for a year or more.

I bought them at the dollar store along with 2

glass pillar candle holders. The other day while

bringing out my fall decorations, I remembered them.

So I glued 2 of the candle holders to the vases

with E-6000 glue. Then I filled one with pine

cones, one with seed pods a former boss gave me,

and the other with some mini Indian corn.

I loved how they turned out. And now I finally

have something on the sofa table as

decoration. It's been bare for months!

Excuse the crappy pictures. With the time change,

it was so dark in my living room. And the

red walls don't help!

Fall Before Him

This was the October bulletin board for my church's

Sunday School department. I used Summertime Designs'

Falling for Fall digital scrapbooking kit for the

paper, acorn, leaves and tree elements.

I cut out the leaf border with my Cricut. I used

a free svg file from Images by Heather M. I gathered

some red crepe paper streamers with my sewing

machine and used that behind the leaf border.

I cut out the title "Fall Before Him" with my Cricut

using Honey Script font. I also shadowed the

title and cut it out using a red paper so

the title would show up more.

The scriptures I used are from Psalms 95:6-7.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel

before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we

are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

Ruched ribbon flower

Here is a ribbon flower I made for my husband's

grandmother. I glued a pin to the back so she

can wear it on her lapel.

Country bench

I have wanted a country style bench ever since we bought our

unfinished dining room table and 4 chairs at Wood You 4 years

ago. We painted the chairs black and stained the table

cherry. The table is round but when the leaf is installed,

the shape changes to oval.

Here is a picture from earlier in the year.

I was trying to save money so we only bought 4 chairs. I had planned
on getting a bench later to put on one side when the leaf is in.
Four years later, I finally got around to it.

A few months ago, I saw these plans on Knock Off Wood. Perfect!

Just what I have been looking for! And only 3 pieces of wood.

I am not a carpenter, but my father is. So I took the plans

to him to see if he could build me one. He said "no problem".

So I bought the wood for $18 and he built the bench for

me in just a few hours. I painted it black and polyurethaned it.

When we are not using it at the dining room table, I am going

to place it next to my windows in the dining room. I love it!

Now to just make some pillows and accessorize it!

Faith, Hope, & Love wall art

I received a catalog in the mail last Christmas from the local Bible

bookstore. I saw some prints in the catalog that I loved but

I didn't want to pay $30 a piece for them. This is the closest

picture I could find online. P. Graham Dunn alphabet photography prints

So I finally set out to do them myself. Almost a year later!

I have had this website Spell with Flickr bookmarked for years.

I just had to wade through all my favorites to find it.

You just type in a word and the search engine brings back

each letter's photo for you. If you don't like that letter, keep clicking

on it until you find one you like. So I did that for "Faith", "Hope" and "Love".

I then saved each letter as a .jpg file. I used Paint.NET, which is free

digital photography editing software similar to Photoshop to edit

the rest of the pictures.

I printed them out on Dollar store photo paper and put them

in Dollar store frames. So each picture costs least than $2 as opposed

to $30 at the bookstore. Yeah! My kind of project.

Baby Shower gift

We had a baby shower for my cousin last weekend.

She's having a little girl! And she's doing the nursery

in ladybugs! How cute! I knew I wanted to make

her something for the wall with my Cricut.

So I painted a 8x10 frame I had black. Then I found

the cutest ladybug file at Brittany's SVG Files.

I designed the layout using SCAL. I added her name,

Bethany Anne. But I flipped her name so I could

apply it to the glass backwards.

I think it turned out so cute!

And my cousin loved it. She said she had been searching

for some wall art and couldn't find anything.

She figured she would have to get something made.

It's so nice when handmade gifts are appreciated!

Cricut wall quote

I still needed something on my office wall at the library. Since

I still haven't made a vinyl wall quote with my Cricut (and

it was the main reason I bought it), I decided now's the time.

When I saw this book quote on A Matter of Memories, I knew it
was perfect for my office.

So I designed it with my Sure Cuts a Lot software and

cut it out with my Cricut onto removable wall vinyl.

Putting it up was the fun part! I laid it out like I wanted

it to go on the wall. Then I cut out a strip of clear

contact paper for each line. I laid the clear contact paper

down onto each line of the quote. Then I placed

each line on the wall and stuck it up temporarily with

painter's tape until I had everything straight. Then I pulled

the backing off the vinyl and pressed the clear contact

paper to the wall. I rubbed the vinyl really good with a bone

folder and carefully peeled the clear contact paper away

from the wall leaving the vinyl words.

I love it! And it is so appropriate for the library.

Now I need to finish the vinyl scripture for

my living room wall! One day!

Book subway art

I have wanted to make subway art since I first

saw it in bloggy world. When I saw Tatertots and Jello's

post about her Subway Art Party, I knew it was time.

I found this canvas at the thrift store for 50 cents.

Scary, huh?

I just recently got an office at work, so I needed

artwork for the walls. And I work in a library, so I

decided to do a book themed subway art.

So I gave my canvas two coats of black craft paint. Then

I used Shannon Makes Stuff's tutorial and prepped my canvas with a

layer of Mod Podge. I designed my lettering using

Sure Cuts a Lot software and cut it out with my Cricut.

I used the speed setting of 2, pressure setting of 3, and

blade depth of 5. It gave me a good "kiss" cut which

didn't cut all the way through the backing.

I used cheapo white contact paper from the dollar store instead

of buying more expensive vinyl since this was my first try.

I pulled off the excess contact paper which left my letters

stuck to the backing. I then cut a piece of clear contact

paper the same size as my canvas and stuck it to

the top of my letters. I then pulled them from the backing

and lined up my letters on the canvas and pressed

them down hard. Then I carefully pulled the clear contact

paper away and left my letters stuck to the canvas.

I had a bit of trouble with this step, probably because

my clear contact paper was extra sticky and my

white contact paper not so much. Next time I will

stick my clear contact paper to a towel or sheet

a few times to make it less tacky before I adhere

to my vinyl.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

My husband was impressed. He said now I

have to make some for our house!

Bedroom curtains

We bought a new comforter set last year that is black and white damask.

I LOVE it! But we didn't have curtains to match. So I looked

and looked online and couldn't find a nice tailored valance and panels

to match that didn't cost an arm and a leg. So of course, my husband

said, "You can them." Ha! He has more confidence in me that I have!

I knew I didn't want to make them from scratch. I didn't want to try to cut the fabric

straight in those long lengths. And then to have to hem all four sides. Yuck!

So I bought 2 full size sheets and 2 pillowcases from Walmart. Instead of buying

the super cheap cotton, I did splurge and buy a higher thread count.

I took each panel and cut them down the middle longways. I then hemmed the edges.

I sewed a pocket at the top for the curtain rod. Then I sewed satin ribbon along

the long edges and the bottom.

For the valance, I bought a 2 x 8 and cut it in half. I screwed 2 L brackets to the bottom

side of each board. I ripped the seams out of each pillowcase and then hemmed

the short ends. I sewed black satin ribbon along the bottom edge. Then I stapled the

fabric to the top edge of the board. I made box pleats at each corner and in the middle

to match my dust ruffle on my bed. Then I glued a smaller satin ribbon on top to hide

the staples.

I think they turned out ok! Sorry for the crappy pictures. The sunlight shines straight

in the bedroom windows in the afternoon. I also bought some blackout panels. I think

they made a big difference in the look of the curtains.

Corn husk wreath

Well I finally took down my 4th of July decorations.

Yeah! In Sept! Oh, well! I didn't want to

put up the same old fall wreaths. About 6 months ago,

my husband and I ate at a Mexican restaurant/grocery

store. When we finished eating, we walked around the grocery

store looking at all the unusual products.

My husband bought a Coke in a glass bottle.

Oh how I miss those! And I bought a bag of

corn husks with Martha's harvest wreath in mind.

I had an old straw wreath that I bought at the

thrift store. I wrapped it in leftover ribbon

because the straw was getting everywhere.

Then I followed Martha's instructions for the rest

of the wreath.

I think it turned out pretty good. Now to just get

the rest of my fall stuff out!

Fun with my cricut

I design the bulletin board for our Sunday school every

month. It's so much fun! I usually try to match the

bulletin board to the season/month. Sometimes I

just find a cute scrapbooking kit and I think

of a theme to match. Which is what happened with

this month's. I loved the bright colorsof Scrapping Serenity's

planes, trains and automobiles.

The traffic signs got me inspired. I found a free traffic

sign dingbat from Scrapping Table. Then I got to

work with my cricut and Sure Cuts a Lot software.

I left several of the traffic signs as is. And I altered

a few of them.

I learned a lot with the title! I welded the letters and cut them

out in red. Then I made a copy and changed the effect to

shadow and cut that out in the polka dots.

I made the scripture in Paint.NET. I just layered three

of the digital papers together and added

the scripture.

I had a lot of fun!

Baby hair clips

I found this website, Hip Girl Boutique over a year ago.

They have instructions for their hair clips in the forum.

My mom and I have wanted to make some of these hair

clips every since. I finally bought 3/8 in. grograin ribbon

the other day at Walmart. I sat down this week and made

some of the clips for my niece and cousin. I also made a

ribbon holder for my cousin's 1st birthday. So cute!

I can't wait until I have a baby girl!

Zipper shoe clips

I got dressed for church the other morning and

looked down at my high heels and thought,

"I sure wish I had some shoe clips

to go with this outfit." :-)

My husband looked at me and sighed,

You know you can whip some up

in about 5 minutes."

So I ran to my craft room and

plugged in the hot glue gun. Getting the

zipper stops off took the longest out of

the whole thing. I think they turned

out cute. I got a lot of compliments on them.

Craft room organization

I have a ton of ribbon in a basket sitting on the floor. Before that,

it was in a drawer. Neither place is very good for actually

seeing what I have.

So I was in the thrift store the other day. I spied a spice

rack in the corner. I grabbed it and thought 'I could

make something out of that".

A few weeks later, inspiration hit me. I could turn the spice

rack into a ribbon holder. YEAH!

Unfortunately I don't have a before picture. I took the bottom two

shelves off of the spice rack. I spray painted it white. Then I

screwed in eye hooks and threaded a dowel into

each one. And voila! Instant ribbon holder!

I am so glad to get my ribbon up on the wall where

I can see what I have now.

I still needed something for those little odds and ends.

I was in the Dollar Tree the other day and spied these

neat little favor tins in the wedding section.

They are metal and have a clear lid.

Then the light bulb went off again!

I could glue a magnet to the back of the tins

and put them on a cookie sheet for my little

craft things. So I ran back to the kitchen section

and grabbed a cookie sheet.

I spray painted the cookie sheet white and added

a piece of scrapbook paper to the middle.

I hot glued magnets to the back of the tins

and hung it on the wall.

One more craft room project down,

a million more to go!

I love IKEA!

I was finally able to go to IKEA a few weeks ago

while we were on vacation in Orlando. Wow, that

store is awesome! We spent a few hours in there

just wandering around from room to room.

We only bought a few things and this lamp was

one of them.

I love it! Just what I needed over my craft table.

Zipper flowers

I have been wanting to try another zipper flower for while.

My last one didn't turn out all that good.

On vacation, I found these awesome mustard high heels

half off (!) at Dillards. Of course, I don't own anything

mustard colored. So I had to do some more shopping

and find a mustard colored shirt to go under

this jacket I found at TJ Maxx on clearance. Wow!

All we did was shop on vacation!

So anyway, I then had to make a mustard colored

flower. I didn't have any ribbon or fabric that color.

But I did have 3 zippers!

So I looked at some pictures of zipper flowers again

and tried it. I think it turned out pretty good.

I had a little bit of zipper left over. So I made shoe

clips for my high heels. So cute!

More craft room organization

I needed something for this blank wall in my craft room.

My mom had this buffet in storage. It needed some

work, though. I guess it was meant to be used from either

side. The front side has 2 drawers and cabinets and open shelving.

The back side had open shelving and a cabinet with 2 doors.

I wanted to use it against the wall, so my dad moved one

set of doors to the other side for me. I painted it white and

spray painted the hardware with brushed nickel paint.

Awesome stuff!

I wish I had gotten a before picture. But my dad

started working on it the minute I brought it out of

storage.

I think it turned out great. It may look like it is floating.

But there are legs under there!

This is one of my favorite parts of this project. I got this

pretty green contact paper at Fred's of all places! I lined the

drawers and shelves with it.

So pretty!

I've had this clear 3 drawer organizer for a while.

I had a light bulb moment when I saw this cute

wrapping paper at Dollar General. It matched

the color scheme I wanted to do in my craft room.

I initally thought I would cover some shoeboxes for

more storage. But then I decided to cut some pieces

to dress up the drawers.

And now they are not see through anymore. You can't

see all my junk!

I found this ugly folder organizer at the thrift store. I came

home and spray painted it white and now use it for

my scrapbook paper.

And of course, my owls. I found them at 2 different

thrift stores on 2 different occasions.

How lucky is that! And I didn't have to paint them.

Shoe clips

I have had these shoe clip blanks for a year now.

I have wanted to make shoe clips for my

high heel shoes and maybe some for

plain flats.

Well, I finally did it!

I wanted to match an outfit I was wearing

to church the other night. So I whipped these

up right before we were walking out the

door! My husband just shook his head.

He just puts up with my crafting. Poor man!

I took a black tieback I had cut off of a skirt.

Then I cut out a small circle of black felt.

I tied a knot in one end of the fabric and hot glued

it to the felt. Then I just twisted and wrapped

the fabric around the knot in the middle.

I put a dab of hot glue every once in a while

until I came to the outer edge of the felt.

I glued a feather to the back along with

the shoe clip blank.

They are so cute!

I especially love the feathers.

this one for a couple of years. I finally decided

to do something with it.

I was inspired by Tea and Squirrels' shop at etsy.com.

This is how mine turned out. Not bad.

Dollar store organization

I needed something in my craft room for small

things like safety pins, googly eyes, thumbtacks, etc.

I saw these tin boxes in the Wedding section of

the Dollar Tree. Perfect! And they are 3 for $1.

Then I picked up a cookie sheet for $1.

I spray painted the cookie sheet white. I decoupaged

some scrapbook paper in the middle of the sheet.

Then I glued some ribbon around the edges of the paper

because my paper didn't reach all the way to

the edge.

I hot glued magnets to the back of each tin.

And voila!

So cute and easy!

I haven't put it up on the wall yet. I'm waiting

until I'm done with my ribbon organizer. I'll show

you that soon!

Pegboard in my craft room

My dad came over this past weekend and hung the pegboard for me in my craft room.

I am so happy with the way it turned out.

I know the colors are bright, but the fabric for the valance will tie all the colors in together.

The pegboard was free from my dad. The shutters came from a dear co-worker.

All I bought was the paint and pegs.

My craft room is one more step closer to being done. I still want to refinish a buffet my mom is giving me for more storage. And I need to decorate the walls.

Where is my Cricut?! :)

Thrift store chairs

I bought these chairs a WHILE back at the thrift store for $3.
My plan was to paint them and recover the seats. I finally
got around to it this weekend.

I sanded the chairs and painted them black with my free

Glidden paint. I love that paint! It goes on so smooth.

I bought some black and white fabric at Joann's and recovered

the seats.

I love it!

Now I just need to get a bigger lamp and put

some art on the wall. I have the perfect

project in mind for that just as soon

as I get my Cricut in the mail!

Reincarnated corkboard

I bought this corkboard a while back from

the thrift store. Sorry no before pictures!

I covered it in fabric that matched

my master bathroom and glued ribbon

around the edges. I hung it on the back

of my linen closet door and used

pins to hang my earrings and

necklaces.

After a while I started accumulating

a lot of brooches and flower hair clips, so I took

the jewelry down. I hung up all my hair clips instead.

That didn't work that well because the clips

didn't really have anything to grab

onto besides the pins.

So I had an idea. I have a whole roll of

chicken wire leftover from my hutch.

So I took the board back down and stapled

chicken wire to it. Then I hot glued brown

ribbon on the edges.

So much better!

Dry erase board

I made this dry erase board for a co-worker

who is leaving. It is just some scrapbook

paper I printed off the Internet and put into a

frame. The marker has a magnet on the back

so I attached a magnet to the frame so

the marker would stick.

My husband gave me a pair of his cargo pants the

other day and asked if I could cut them off for shorts.

They were in great condition, so I asked him if they

shrunk in the wash :). He said they were just way

too long and he walked all over them. I

could hem them! I saw a tutorial a while

back on how to keep the original hem.

So I looked at all my bookmarks and could not

find it. So I googled and found these two great

tutorials, Just Something I Made and Dacia Ray.

They work perfectly!

Ribbon storage

This is my ribbon scraps box. What a mess!

Here's my ribbon scraps now!

Much better! I just wrapped each piece arounda clothespin and

secured the end in the clamp part. Now I need to make labels

for each jar. The one on the right is Christmas ribbon and

the one on the left is everything else.

My trash find

I took the trash to the dump the other day. The dump
was closed so I had to walk all the trash in.
Not so good! But I found this beauty.

A lot of work - I know! But I just love the legs.

So I took it to my Dad's shop. We added

a new top and new trim around the edges.

I painted it black. I think it turned out pretty good.

Now just to finish the two chairs on either side

of it! I've got to repair the leg on one, paint

both, and recover the seats. A lot of work, but

they were only $5 at the thrift store. Not

bad for extra seating in the living room.

Wine rack makeover

I didn't even paint it. I bought some new hand towels

and put them in it. I like it! My husband is

That is a quote from Thomas Jefferson. I just got a new tote bag

with that quote on it and it is so true. I love books, especially

old books.

It's dangerous working in a library! I get first

dibs on all the donated books. I have been collecting some

old ones for a while now, but I didn't have anywhere

to display them.

I have used a few to raise up some accessories on

my end tables. But I still have a lot of books left.

I found a nice looking bookshelf at Walmart.

I put it together and got out all my books.

Spring basket

We finally cleaned our door this weekend. It was

pretty dirty. So now, I could finally put up a spring

wreath.

I have one from a few years ago, that has

butterflies all over it. But I'm kind of tired of that one.

I looked in my craft supplies and didn't have enough

stuff for a whole wreath. But I found this wall basket

that is flat on one side. I bought it at the thrift store

a few years ago. And I had 2 bunches of flowers

that were pretty spring colors.

So I stuffed some floral foam in the basket. Oh,

how I hate that stuff. It got everywhere. I added

some moss to cover the top of the floral foam.

Then stuck in the flowers. I am in no way a floral

arranger, but it looked alright. It just needed some

height. So I found some silk grass I bought

the other day at the Dollar Tree. I stuck that in.

I really wanted a nest in the flowers. So I moved

the flowers a little bit to make room for a nest. You can't

really see it in the picture. There was a big blob of

old hot glue on the front of the basket. So I

added a bow to hide it.

I think it turned out pretty good.

K

I made this letter K wall hanging for my niece.

I got the K at Hobby Lobby. I printed the paper off the Internet.

Now that I look at it, I should have put the diamonds

going up and down. Oh well!

I cut the other letters out of cardstock and attached them to the

K with a piece of double sided foam tape. I like how

they are raised up off the letter. And I added glitter.

I hot glued ribbon to the top so she can hang it

from her door. I hope she likes it. It's pink and glittery

and fit for a princess!

Garden Boots

I normally wear flip flops or my garden clogs when I am working

in the yard. But my feet get so dirty. And I usually ruin my

pedicure (when I have one). So I have been wanting some

garden/ rain boots to wear outside.

I found these plain black ones at Walmart the other day.

I really wanted a pattern on them, but I wasn't

willing to pay more for the patterned ones.

Plus the designs weren't the greatest.

So I got out the paint and spouncer. I didn't

know what that thing was called until I looked

on the packaging. But it was the perfect size

for polka-dots!

I wanted to add a ruffle of black and white polka dot

ribbon to the top. I had never sewn ruffles with

my sewing machine before. It sounded easy

enough. Just set the machine to the longing straight

stitch and stitch away. Then pull the top stitch

and ruffle the ribbon.

Well, it didn't work so easily for me. The

top thread was very hard to pull. And if

I pulled too hard, it snapped. So plan B, was to

hot glue it to the top of the boots. I just pleated the

ribbon myself and put a dab of glue to

secure the pleats.

I think they turned out really cute!

I can't wait to wear them in the yard

this weekend. At least, I will be

cute for the squirrels!

Name plaque

This is for my sister's nursery.

It was super easy but time consuming.

Each step took a day, waiting for paint and glue to dry.

I had to paint the edges of the "L" before I decoupaged the

zebra print paper on. Then 2 or 3 coats of turquoise paint on

the wooden plaque. Then some sanding. Then I had to figure

out what font and size for the name. Then ink the edges and

decoupage that on and wait for it to dry.

Then I had to figure out how I wanted to

hang it. I finally decided to use wire. So I got out

my drill and drill bits. The drill battery was dead!

So then I had to wait another day for that to

charge. But now that it is done, it was totally

worth the wait. I love it and I hope my sister

does too.

Spring wreath

I needed a spring wreath. When I saw Maryjanes and Galoshes ,

I knew that was the one. So I shamelessly copied hers. I went

out and bought some brown paper bags for $1.50. I already

had the styrofoam wreath from the Dollar Tree.

I added one step to mine though. I didn't want to worry about any white

peeking through. So I cut a couple of bags into strips and

hot glued the strips around the wreath.

And I didn't have a cute scalloped punch like she did.

So I borrowed my mom's scalloped scissors. I

used a coaster as the template.

And here's the finished product! I even copied

the butterflies, but I inked my edges. What can I say?

Sometimes it's just easier to copy!

And here is the whole spring display in my

foyer.

I bought the cheese dome at the thrift store

a while back. I was just waiting for the perfect

thing to put under it. I love the feathers!

They are polka-dotted, of course. They

came from Joann's or Michaels.

I found this birdhouse at the thrift store. It was already painted.

It's been waiting patiently in the closet for spring.

Cloche

I have been wanting to make some kind of home decor balls. So I took some twine and wrapped it around some small styrofoam balls I got at the Dollar Tree. I put a dab of hot glue on the ball every so often. I thought the twine wrapped balls looked plain by theirself, so I covered some in moss. The moss was so messy. I had to pick leaves and sticks out of it. It wasn't a pretty green like I wanted, but it was all I had.

Now, what to put them in? I have a whole box full of glass stuff in my craft room closet. So I started looking. I saw 2 glass lantern covers. A light bulb went off!

Oh, I can make a cloche!

So I keep looking and found a cute green candeholder

that I could use as the base. I didn't even have to paint it!

Now, what could I use to cover the open end of the lantern cover? I really wanted a finial, but it was too small for the hole. So I dug around in my wood stuff and found a small wooden circle. It fit perfectly! So I glued the circle to the finial, painted them white and rubbed some stain on them.

And here is the finished product! I love it! And suprisingly, my husband does too. He said it looks like something you would buy in Pier One. I think that is one of the best compliments he has ever given me for one of my crafts.

Spring and other things

Well, I finally took down my Valentine's decorations this weekend.

I bought some small green apples at Hobby Lobby the other day

and put them in my apothecary jar. I think

I need a table runner or something.

I decoupaged some scrapbook paper on this cute

elephant pull toy, my friend Kristin found at

the thrift store. He's for my new little nephew

due in July.

And I decoupaged some green and white paper

on this shamrock cutting board I

found at the thrift store a while

ago. It needs something else.

I just haven't figured out what yet.

Taggie blanket and owl

Here is another taggie blanket I made with my Moda charm pack.

I have had so much fun with this fabric. I've been able to make 2

taggie blankets, a block, and a owl softie.

Here is the owl softie. I used the tutorial from The Rubber Pumpkin.

I enlarged her pattern on the copier. I think I could have even

made it bigger. I think I will if I ever make one again. I love

how the eyes are just circles cut out of one of the patterns.

I hope she likes it!

A whole lotta love

Well I finaly cut out enough felt circles for my Valentines

wreath like The Idea Room's. 95 to be exact!

I bought a straw wreath at the thrift store. It was shedding

straw like crazy so I wrapped it with some fabric

scraps.

Then I started hot gluing the felt circles on

after folding them in half twice.

And here's the finished wreath!

I love it. Even my husband said I did "really good with it".

After I put my "LOVE" and frame on the dresser,

it still needed something. So I got out a cute

frame I got at the Dollar Tree, took the glass out,

and put some paper in the back. Then

I got out the Scrabble tiles.

How I love Scrabble tiles!

I hot glued them to the paper and added a heart

I cut out from the felt scraps. I think it is my favorite!

And here is everything all together. Just in time for February!

Dry erase calendar

I finished my dry erase calendar! YEAH! I was inspired by

Somewhat Simple's calendar, but I don't have a Cricut to

cut out the days of the week. So I pondered on it for a while.

I thought about printing them on clear sticker paper

or using rub-ons. Then I saw The Stories of A to Z's

calendar. I could do the lines and words on the computer!

So I made a calendar in Word and designed a header

with Paint.NET. I'm not totally satisfied with the header,

but I was past ready to hang it. So it will have to do for now.

Little bit of love

I found these wooden sayings at the Dollar Tree a while back.

When I saw them again the other day, I had forgotten

I had "LOVE" too!

So I printed out some scrapbook paper from PaigeandBrooke and decoupaged

it over each letter. I got the heart frame at Family

Dollar the other day. I put a little scrap of paper

in it too.

And I am working on a Valentine's wreath like

this one over at the Idea room.

I only have 50 circles cut out so far. I don't know

how many I need, but probably a lot

more than that!

More craft room organizing

I've been doing some more organizing

in my craft room.I made some cute labels for all

my storage containers. I got the labels from Tricia-Rennea's blog.

She has a lot of cute printables. I printed them

out on sticker paper.

I got these storage boxes from the Dollar Tree. I love

the colors and patterns. They inspired my whole color

scheme in my craft room. Now I just have to

find some fabric for the window valance

with these colors. I still need to print out some

labels for these boxes.

I covered some vegetable cans with scrapbook paper

for my markers, colored pencils, and paintbrushes.

That's it for now. I am painted a table my Mom

gave me. I can't wait until it's finished

and put in my craft room.

Winter

I put up my Christmas decorations this week and got out my Winter stuff.

This is a grapevine snowman I made several years ago. All you do is wire 3 different sizes of grapevine wreaths together. Then I made a scarf and hat out of fleece and glued some snowflakes on him.

I made this wreath several years ago also. It is just cotton balls glued to a round styrofoam wreath form. Then I glued on blue beads that were shaped like snowflakes and a silver bead in the middle to cover the hole in the bead. I can't believe it has lasted this long. If you look real close you can see some of the glue on the beads has yellowed.

Started on my craft room...

All I want for Christmas is to get my craft room moved
from the carpeted bedroom to the linoleum bedroom AND organized.
Linoleum in a bedroom? Weird, I know! It's a long story.

So I bought a new wire shelf. I already had one, but I wanted another
to go on the other side of the window. I started organized my craft supplies and
bringing them in from the other room. Right now, I used shoe boxes and baskets
I found around the house to put each category in.

Later I would love for everything to match. I will be pulling out my

trusty spray paint whenever I figure out my color scheme.

I want to make some fabric baskets like this or this.

I think it would be so cute to use coordinating fabrics for the window

valance and baskets.

Maybe I will even cover my office chair like my friend Kristin

did over at Little Corbin Hill. Plus that will give me an excuse to

use my new air compressor and staple gun.

I used glass containers for all the colorful supplies,

like pompoms, pipe cleaners, and zippers.

Buttons!

This is one of my favorite containers and one of my newly

acquired craft supplies. BINGO chips! I don't know what I

am going to do with them yet. But they are so cute!

I got these glass jars at the thrift store along with

2 boxes of the letters. There are so many I can't even fit them

all in the jar. The letters are ceramic. I think they were used in

some kind of marquee sign for the DOT maybe. You can see

the pink post-it note on the box in the next picture.

And of course, Scrabble tiles!

Ping pong balls. Cause you never know when a craft will

call for ping pong balls. A girl's got to be ready for anything! :-)

And I haven't even started on the sewing stuff!

I love the vintage thread wrapped ornaments I found at the thrift store. I have been collecting the glass Christmas tree jars all year. I finally found 3 different sizes. The trees are on top of my dining room hutch so maybe I won't eat all the candy in a few days.

I love these candy picks I got at Dollar General. These candlesticks have been needing something else.

I leave these balls out year round on my coffee table. For fall, I added some silk leaves. For Christmas, I added some leftover ornaments from the ornament wreath. I love the 2 red pinecone ornaments I got at Dollar General for $1.

I loved this Christmas card we got last year. I just put it in a frame for instant Christmas decor.

And of course, scrabble tiles! I love these things. The flashcard is from a "learning to read" kit the library was going to put in the booksale. I snatched it up quick! It has all kinds of great words. I can't wait to do more displays with the cards.

Dollar store ribbon...

I have collected $1Christmas ribbon from Dollar General and Dollar Tree for YEARS! But I have hoarded it and never used it for everything. I finally broke down and used it this week. I bought some greenery wreaths at the Dollar Tree and hung them around the house.

Pillows on the couch. I wanted to wrap the pillows like presents but I only had one roll of this ribbon. So I just made pinwheel bows and pinned them to the pillows.

I had a little scrap left over and I threaded it through the letters of HOPE.

FSU/BAMA tree

I should have gotten these pictures up over the weekend considered BAMA is the SEC champion! This tree is in our den on top of the milkcan table lamp I made.

I bought these 2 polymer clay ornaments one year at a craft show.

I cross stitched these ornaments.

This is the only other BAMA ornament I have and I made it from a stuffed elephant that I put an A on. Pretty sad! I need to check out etsy.com for some other ornaments.

And of course, a picture of the Chief Osceola and his horse Renegade statue in front of Doak Campbell stadium.

It's the end of an era. I'll miss you, Bobby!

My snowman tree

This is my snowman tree in my living room. Don't mind the crazy picture of my husband!

These are my favorite ornaments on the tree. I got these at Ace Hardware (of all places) several years ago.

I made the smaller snowman out of air drying clay.

The snowman with the tobaggan was made out of a styrofoam ball and orange clay for the nose. His hat is a finger cut off of a cheapy glove.

The snowman with the purple yarn scarf was made following this tutorial at BHG.

The frosted bead snowman was given to me, but I think he is handmade also.

These guys were attached to past Christmas presents.

My redneck Christmas tree

The lights are made out of red and green spent shotgun shells. All you do is take the open end and stuff some of the plastic back in on itself. Then the shells will pop right on the string of lights.

And what redneck Christmas tree is complete without deer antlers? Those are the antlers from the spike I killed a few years ago...

I guess you could say those antlers cost me about $5000.

My ladder...

My husband and I found this ladder at the antique mall about a year ago. I liked the size and style of it and the fact that it used rope as stays to keep the ladder open. But I didn't like the color. It was a bright green with paint spatters all over it. I mean, I wanted distressed but not THAT distressed.

So I finally got around to painting it. I used an olive green color that is in our dining room rug. I think it turned out pretty cute. I had initially want to put a couple of plants on it, but I am not so good with house plants. So I have fall/Thanksgiving decorations on it right now.

I used the tutorial found at My Little Gems for the pipe cleaner pumpkins. These would be so much fun for children to make.

Next week - out comes the Christmas decorations. Yeah!

Tiered tray display stand

I was so inspired by Shanty2Chic's cake stand that I just had to copy it.

I knew I wouldn't find any hatboxes lying around my house, so I thought the lids off of cookie tins would work. I thought a big popcorn tin for the bottom, a regular size cookie tin for the middle and a small one for the top. But when I got to the thrift store, they didn't have any large or medium tins. And any other time they have oodles.

So I keep looking around and came across a set of burner covers! They were perfect. So I went back and got a small tin for the top. I also picked up 2 wooden candlesticks. I got the finial at Lowe's.

until I downloaded it from my camera.

I was so impatient to put it together that I painted everything first then glued it together. I didn't distress mine but I may later.

I am so happy with how it turned out. I decorated it with my fall stuff for now. I think it would be so cute with some cupcakes on it. I'm not much of a baker, but I think I can handle some cupcakes. And my husband would be happy too!
